Kayak rack saddles

I've been using yakima land shark saddles on my yakima set up for a few years now. Our latest hauler is a chevrolet equinox. With the factory rails my bars are only 26" apart. I usually haven't had a problem balancing my cobra fish n dive except one time i got it too far forward and it slid down the hood b4 i could strap it down. Last week i took the saddles off and mounted 2 5' pieces of 3" pvc to the bars like boat trailer bunks. Wish i had done it originally. No more saddles rolling around the bars. More forgiving weight distribution. And cheap too.

if the tubes were long enough they could double to transport rods.

Good one. Did something similar with a HF trailer I modified. Worked well, never had a problem.

Hmmm. Do you have any picts with the kayak loaded on top?

Just took pics with the yak sitting on it. I also added a tube on the ends of the bars to protect the car when loading.

How are the PVC bunks attached?

Bolted using the P clamps from the land shark saddles.

Nice! Did you have to put a washer or something on the other side? Looks like a great idea.

I did put a washer inside.
I did see the other bunk thread, he used 4" pvc and u-bolts.
Thinking bout listing the saddles on here for trade. 4 saddles but only 4 clamps instead of 8.
