Been a few years since Ive been on the board...decided just to make a new account. Anyways, fished the red can infront of the aquarium yesterday and drifted about 2 miles back into the del monte area. Fished anywhere from 80-130 FOW. Drifted sabikis tipped with squid. We couldnt help but catch rockfish...I mean a lot! 5 Ling cods and several assorted rockfish. Figures the season is closed right now....We didnt catch any dabs! I couldnt believe it. The only dab I got was eaten by a ling before I got it up. I really wanted to take home dinner : ( this was my first time dab fishing. I felt we were in the right depth range and covered a lot of area. Anyone been out lately? Whats it take to load up a bucketfull of these things??

Yeah, you need to fish deeper.  200 FT.

I usually find mine just out of the harbor in about 60-80 fow.  Though they are generally small ones.

I agree with JJQ.   Last time, I fished around 200-240ft and caught 5-8 dabs on every drop.  In areas less than 200ft deep, we weren't catching as much.

Thanks guys. I thought 100+ would be plenty deep to at least get a few bites...but I got nothin. I will probably try again in a few weeks and fish some deeper water. That is quite a ways out there, I normally do not venture that far out
