A couple of months ago I became interested in rod building, and Pat bravely volunteered to test my first product.  She wanted a new rockfish rod and specified a 6 foot, fast/heavy with conventional guide placement.  Oh yeah - and LOTS of *BLING*!

I purchased components, tools, how-to books and videos and a couple of months later, just in time for opening day, she had her homebrew rod. Emphasis on the word "homebrew."  Not "custom."  Eric does custom.   :smt007

Components = Lamiglas LS-XC72H 15-30# rod blank in root beer color;  Fuji gold hardalloy guides; chocolate colored eva grips; brown/gold-flecked, exposed blank reel seat;  gold metalic holographic and black nylon thread.

The rod is mated to an ABU 6500C3 two-speed reel to which I added a power handle.

My nightmares about all the wraps exploding the moment she hooked her first fish were, thankfuly unrealized.  She caught a mess of rockies yesterday, and reported complete satisfaction.

The finished product:

I of course smiled every time the light sparkled off of it.........and it popped another fish swiftly into my lap........... :smt003

Good Job Randy... looks like an excellent job.    Nice to see you jump right in and just do it.  That's the best way to learn.  You seem to get more satisfaction out of landing fish with your own rods... and I'm sure Pat is very proud of her new rod.  Good work.

What no pink!?!?!?!?  :smt003

Nice looking stick Randy. I think it really adds to the experience when you catch fish on gear you make.
