The wife asked if I wanted to visit Santa Cruz tomorrow and try to fish off the Pier. I said sure but we do not have any clue on what to do or where to go. A coworker told her about how they dropped 2 crab rings and had 4 keepers and landed 1 steelhead and 5 perch two weeks ago from the Wharf.

So now the wife wants to go :-)

We are going to be fishing from the pier or beach any tips, tricks and rigging ideas would be great.

We plan on visiting from Saturday - Sunday evening

Thanks for the help :-)

Haven't fished that pier since the 70's :smt003

We just put down pcs of squid, shrimp etc. on a double dropper with about 1oz on the bottom with our cruddy little bass type rods. Lots of fun catching and releasing usually undersized RF's.

You'll learn a lot checking out all the pier rats, what with all of their carts and pole holders and such.

Love that place, good luck!

We had fun :-)

Crabbing was slow & the fishing was fun. Caught 4 Star Fish all released.

Had some great food, sightseeing and even a nature hike.
