Picking up my first kayak this weekend from yak hopper, super stoked! Been talking with a couple guys on what they feel the necessary/minimal gear I need to have on it. It will be primarily a dive platform for me, spearing and abs, but as I read more and more I think I may have to come to one of these fishing events !!!

Matt, I've already told you what I bring and when...here is a good thread that mirrors some of the stuff we have already discussed.

Obviously as a diver we go out prepared for immersion so the list isn't an exact match, but many of the concepts and safety gear apply to anyone out on a kayak in the ocean.
