Little update on Team Pay it Forward, link below for background:

http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=40362.0

Good news and not so good news....

Good news first!  :smt003

We have been VERY successful in our fundraising with the help and support of the NCKA brotherhood and friends and familys!!  :smt007 :smt007

http://pages.teamintraining.org/sj/nikesf12/TeamPayItForward

And, while the website above shows $5,681 raised, we have actually already submitted $685 more and are just waiting for it to post so we have raised $6,366 in the past 2 months for Cancer Research!!

A HUGE part of our fundraising success was due to NCKA support: donations, matching funds from employers, and help with the events that we have put on.

We did a Fundrasing Party at my house and had 40+ people over to drink, eat, gamble and get wild and crazy.  The fish that was served was supplied by a morning of harvesting by fuzz, Sharkbait, Rick and Nick. I had a very bad sinus infection so was not much help, but caught a few rockies and Lings on hook and line and cleaned all the fish that the boys harvested.

That party generated $1,000, and with a 2:1 matching donation from a very generous employer it turned into $3,000 raised for Cancer Research!

 :smt007 :smt007

Here is a link to a vid of the morning harvesting...thanks again to fuzz, Nathan, Rick and Nick for your help!!!

The weekend after was the Top2Bottom event which generated well over $1,000 as well!!!

Huge thanks to all who came out, helped with logistics (bloodbath and FishMaster1!!), donated even if they couldn't come out, to Morgan for the GoPro prize, Amadeo Bachar for the BEAUTIFUL prints, and Sackyak for the awesome canned tuna!!!

Vid of that day here:

We also sold a ton of tickets for a 32 GB iPad that we raffled off last night....

Bad news on the raffle is that an NCKA bro did not win, but my buddy Freddy's boss who bought 6 tickets did so it's all good.  :smt003

Ok...the not so good news part....I've been really struggling with my training for the Marathon.  Been having serious problems with my calves and lower back...apparently my body is more comfortable swimming underwater than it is running on land now.  :smt002 :smt005

My plan was to train with the rest of the Team for the Half-Marathon but actually do the Full.

Yeah...not gonna happen.  :smt009

No reason why I wanted to do the Full really (I have done 3 Fulls already), just figured it would be more of a challenge, and I really thought I would be able to get in shape for it in 2 months.

But, with the problems I have been having even running the Half is gonna be a huge mental and physical challenge....I did 13+ miles last Saturday and it was tougher than any race I have ever run...each step was painful and I just wanted to stop and sit down and cry.

Very frustrating and depressing to say the least.....

:smt013 :smt010 :smt013

SO....have changed my registration from Full to Half and will be doing my best to keep up with my wife and take some good GoPro footage of her running...  :smt004

Usagi's wife will also be there running and he will be there cheering her on...think DaBlazer's will be running again as well, and hoping Mooch will be out there in the cheer section as well!!  :smt003

THANK YOU once again to all who have supported our fundraising and efforts to help find a cure for cancer.  Love you guys, and hope to make you proud when I am out there running on 10/14 in honor of all who are battling cancer and in memory of those who had cancer and have already pased on....

Here is the course map showing where we will be running on 10/14...if you are in the city come on out and cheer us on, or meet me at the end with a cold beer!!   :smt002 :smt003 :smt004

Just another little update...

Team Pay it Forward (My wife, our friend Estela and I) have raised $6,466 for cancer research in the past three months.

We completed our event on 10/14:

But we are part of a group of 15 or so folks in Santa Cruz who are still fundraising/training for the Big Sur Half and the Honolulu Full.

Since the season started in August our Santa Cruz Team has raised $47,772!!!  :smt007 :smt007

Our super duper team goal is $50k so if anyone has any $$ they still want to donate to a great cause (for tax purposes or just cuz) please feel free to utilize this link:

http://pages.teamintraining.org/sj/nikesf12/TeamPayItForward

No donation is too small and every dollar counts.

Special thanks to all who have donated and supported this (and other past fundraising efforts)...I love you guys and am proud to call you my friends. Especially you A-Hulls.

Thanks fellas!

Any more fundraising events planned for the remainder of the year?

Not really Bill...Ana will be training/fundraising again in January so I'm sure we will do some events then...

For now, the sale of your pens/openers with a portion to LLS is the only thing I know of going on.  :smt004

However, our very own SCTrace (awesome woman by the way) is currently raising $ to help find a cure for Prostate Cancer:

http://mosista.co/traceyziomek

Quote
As some of you may know, I am a Volunteer Firefighter in Santa Cruz.  Each November, along with the rest of the world, we bring awareness to prostate cancer through what is now referred to as Movember.  The guys at the station start growing mustaches of all shapes and sizes on November 1st and they don’t shave again until November 30.  The idea is that other people will ask them "why the mustache?" and then a conversation about prostate cancer awareness would follow.  Being the only female at the station, and the fact that I am truly unable to grow a mustache, my challenge is to raise more money than all of them :)

I am asking you to help support by making a donation of $5 (the minimum accepted by cc'd) as the amount isn’t important, every little bit helps Movember continue its funding of world-class programs.  If you want to know more about what you’ll be helping to fund, you can visit http://us.movember.com/about/funding-overview/.

No worries either way of course, but if you are interested, you can make a donation by either:
*Adding to my $5 cash donations envelope (currently up to $10) and I will donate the full amount under XenoPort at the end of the week.
*Donating online at: http://mosista.co/traceyziomek
*Writing a check payable to 'Movember', referencing my Registration ID: 557372 and mailing it to: Movember, PO Box 2726, Venice CA 90294-2726

Movember is a registered 501 (c)(3) charity, donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

http://us.movember.com/mospace/557372

THANK YOU!!!

Tracey

Thanks again to all for the support and encouragement.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim
