So here I was , once again showing up late to Tomales, however the wind and sun were both in my favor and I ended up with some nice drifts right around the 1st hour of incoming.  I first found my favorite spots to try the new cast net. I got the 6ft 3/8 version. I was searching for 1/4 inch but just said f it.  Parked over by the buoy south of hog island right off the sand bar.  Caught shinners, choives, smelt, and some kind of bigger perch thing.  Did a few drifts and bam fish on!.  But alas I knew it was too big to be a butt , so sure enough here comes Mr. Skate.  boo hoo I say!.. but what a fight! probably about 30-40 lbs.  So that was that for Saturday.  Chilled on Sunday and said well what the heck, back to Tomales with cat food this time. I found my favorite flavor by the end of the day and the best bait spot for shinners. The chovies were getting stuck in the 3/8 mesh .. So I stuck with shinners.  Did two drifts in the old channel next to Hog , hit another 30-40 lbs skate,  ran into a guy and his wife.  Asked how they did , she said she hooked a 36 inch Butt , got it to the boat and her husband lost it with a miss of the gaff!  :smt009 He wouldnt even look up at us! ..  pretty funny.  anyways did another drift and another skate of the same size.. Im like wtf!!  (what the fok)   Ran into another guy who had about a 15lber.  Tons of bait in Tomales , but the butts are still hard to find.

Thanks for the update Nate
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

you're throwing a net from your yak? I have one I used from my boat but would've never thought it would work sitting down Maybe I'll try it sitting on a stool

No this is all non yak stuff.  I have a 14ft aluminum but im on here because you guys are the shizzle.  I still have plans for a yak just dont have alot of cash right now to gear up.   Ive been throwing from the boat and the sand bar.  But forgot the best part of the story!.

I threw my net from the boat at the sand bar and it flew out of my hand!  I was anchored so there was no chance of a quick rope grab..  Oh NO!!  it sank and i basically accepted a loss, but after 5 drifts both my friend and I hooked the net off the bottom and I got it back!..  haha close one  ..  thankgod the tide wasnt pulling that hard.  :smt004
