I had a little bit of time to get out and play after Christmas so me and a few friends headed to Doran Beach for a little Crabbing, fishing, and rescue practice. The whole day was windy as hell and super cold. He headed out around 8:00am to drop pots and paddle around. Ron and I went out to the head to see how rough it was. I fished for about an hour with no luck. Spent most my time trying to stay off the rocks. While I was there I scouted out some spots for our Rescue clinic at the end of the month. I found one really nice spot tucked in some rocks that we will use for the class. It's a safe place to learn without anyone getting into trouble. I practiced playing the victim who dumped my kayak back in the rocks, and Ron fished pulled me out to deeper water to finish the rescue. During the practice my two piece suit started to leak and it became a little bit more real life. Thankfully Ron knows his stuff and had me back into my kayak and paddling in no time and I warmed right back up.

The rest of the day I pulled pots and got about 12 undersized, and females. My buddy Tim caught only 2 keepers out of 4 pots. With the white caps rolling in hard and the tide ripping out we decided to load up the yaks and go get warm. All and all it was a great day on the coast with a lot of good learning experiences. I look forward to Crabfest at the end of this month.

Crabbing sucked on Monday, too.

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...
