Anybody ever launched from Limatour? Was thinking about checking it out. The beach access appears to be south of the Pt Reyes SMR.

I did some paddling there years ago with my dad. I think we launched on the inside and paddled to the mouth of the estuary, out to sea, and south again, finishing up with a beach landing in front of the parking lot. The landing was fine as I recall, but the swell was down. I think that beach can get nasty if the swell is up.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Chimney rock is a sweet deal launch. Super-protected from swells. It may however pass us through smr areas. Not sure.

Limantour beach could be dicey at times Scott. As all beach launches for the most part can be up here it seems. The huge NW swell from the northern winter storms is somewhat diluted to the fact of Pt Reyes breaking that off from the north part of the beach. Drakes Beach would be better I think if you are loking for a true surf launch. Like Andrew said , launching in the estero would be what almost everyone does. May I ask why you would want to launch there? Are you thinking of a run down the coast on the AI then into the bay? That sounds fun! All of Drakes Bay for the most part is now MLPA. There is another launch out there that's totally protected and its the one that Jack is referring to. You drive all the way around to the lighthouse and beyond that if you go down to the inner bay there is an old Pt ST. Georges fish dock. Past that is an old coast guard building. You used to be able to fish all around there and we used to crab off the fish dock. The few commercials that worked out of there brought their crabs there to be hauled to market. The Nunes ranch is the last ranch/ working dairy before you get there. Goerge Nunes and his son Tim were customers of the body shop I work at and they were great, great people. Goerge is gone now and Tim still runs the ranch. George ran his crab operation out of that dock too. If its just a paddle you want. Ill go!

Thanks guys. Sounds like chimney rock if I am paddling and drakes estero if I am sailing. Both launches are in SMR's which I try to avoid but is not against the regs if you are in transit and not fishing. I want to try some new places because it is fun and I am tired of getting stuff stolen. Will post a hookup.
