Well, I think we wore the wife/mom down finally.  Yesterday she said I could get a dog.
The fact that I agreed to sell my powerboat may have had something to do with it.  (One buyer interested, if he passes, I'll post the PB here on classfieds)

We haven't had dogs since our two passed around 7 years ago.

My intention is to 'let the dog come to me....' In other words, it will happen and I'll know it's the right one.

Is it pushing fate to mention here that I'm looking?  I don't think so.

I like all dogs but especially GSD's, Bouviers, English Bulldogs....Not much of a Lab or chihuahua guy.  Hound dogs are cool.

So, any puppies out there?

I know a respected breeder with one Akita puppy left. We love our Akita.

My sister has a female english bulldog.  It's the sister of my dog Max.

She's pretty mellow and has a very fun personality.

Lot's of ways to choose a dog, but I would say let the dog choose you. Above all other things, you want a good companion. Barking, digging, herding, chewing, jumping, biting are all secondary to their connection to you. At the end of the day, the species doesn't matter. Molly chose us and then we chose her. Yeah, she is way too social.

+1 on that.   Get a mature dog.  We got Prada from Golden Gate Lab Rescue.  She was 7 and we had her for 5 more years.  Rescues exist for most breeds and they have all age dogs.   Skip the breeder, get more KARMA, adopt a dog.

Talk about timing!  Our family had the same exact feeling this last week.  I contacted a respected lab rescue agency and we met with a pair of middle aged Labradors. They chose us this fine day and we filed the paperwork for the adoption transfer this coming Thursday!  Both dogs have day and night personalities that surprisingly fit our family.  All of our previous dogs have been strays that showed up on our doorstep (both times during a major storm).  Been a dry year so we had to go looking a bit.  Couldn't justify even thinking about a breeder whet there do many dogs in need out there that need a loving home!  We are a blessed family for these new additions!

Good things come in pairs. ;)

If your getting a Lab get one about 3 yrs old and skip some bad habits hopefully. We have two boxers they are very loyal both rescue. And funny as hell to watch play there is a reason they are called boxers. But I did love my rots just as much.
