Question that has been haunting me for a couple of years.
I live in California 6 months out of the year but my business is in NJ.  I spend the other half out there.  I have a residency here in Cali and pay taxes on the property.  The thing is my drivers license is from nj.  according to the dmv you are only allowed one license one state.
Currently I have a cal resident fishing license with my cali address but nj license.  What happens when the warden asks for my drivers license.  Do I need prof of residency her in Cali.  Could I get a cal ID card with a nj license?
Has anyone been in this situation?
Any advise will be appreciated.

AH.
I've only been questioned once out in nj for my fishing license.  Never been questioned in Cal.  Come to think of it they only asked to see me fishing license.
So they don't ask to verify drivers license?

I think as an adult, you are "required" to carry a form of identification at all times whether fishing or not.

Ken, you can ask Carrie Wilson at the F&G at [email protected]. She produces the Q&A column for the agency that is distributed to newspapers and via email. She will either answer you privately or (eventually) in a column.

I don't carry my wallet when fishing from kayak in my wetsuit.  I've been asked to see my fishing license several times but never a driver license or any other document.

Residency wise, I think if you meet the time in state requirement that "allows" you to get a Ca resident fishing license, then you also meet the time in state criteria that "requires" you to have a CA DL.

Thanks guys, great advice.  I'm going to try getting id card and also give Carrie Wilson a shout.
Just don't want to get stuck with a fine and/or worse out there.

I could present my postal ID badge as ID if I shose to do so.
Just because they ask for ID doesn't mean it has to be a drivers license.
A passport card would work wonders for ID. Just don't try to get on a plane with one.

If they can get any angle on you they will drop the hammer. The idea doesn't seem to prevent serious poaching anymore it's to write as many high value tickets as they can. Very different from the old days.

I did some online research and could not come up with a definitive answer about my "assumption" above.  I have asked Carrie Wilson a couple question via email and found the answers to come pretty quickly on an individual basis, I've never had one of my questions end up in her column.

Good Luck
