Went out yesterday for my last three abs of the season, bringing my years take to a nice even 24. I took two Canadian friends for their first and only ab dive of the year, both of them did great and limited out. We were diving in about 35' of water for the whole time and the vis was fairly decent considering how rough the water has been. I was mostly diving with my pole spear and the one time I'm playing with the ab iron and float line I see this huge fish swim right under me. I went back up and got my spear out and the now the fish was no where to be found. I kept searching and a few dives later I turn a corner and there he is only a few feet from my face with his big toothy frown. I think he was being a bit territorial, mistake, and so he wasn't to quick to run off and as he slowy turned to swim past I pulled back my spear and stuck him right through the neck. When I brought him up to the surface I had to grab him by the tail to prevent him from kicking free (my spear tip is barbless), my buds were impressed and once we had him secured I used my pole spear to measure him (I have marked it for different fish sizes and regs) and this guy was just about 27". A nice ling. It was a good day. My take was 3 abs, a nice sized ling, and an urchin. I love the feeling of beeing underwater at depth just on my own breath.

Btw, that was my first ling ever and also the biggest fish I've ever caught. I can't stop thinking about yesterday's dive.

Thanks guys, I just measured my abs. All three were 9", the biggest was 9.5. At the beach I just kind of figured they would be 8+, thats the first time that's happened too.
