Well as a stand up company... He did offer to buy them back from me... +1 in their favor As to...

I always lean towards skepticism when you're talking to the guy who the regulations effect.  He might say his product is only not legal because its not covered in the regs, but that's his personal opinion as the business owner, not as an attorney versed in F&G law.

I prefer to live in that positive Bubble that allows me to be nice and amicable to those around me. Unless I have a solution. I'll defer to others. Santa Claus does exist in the Hearts of many as does the Easter bunny.... I choose to believe, ya it costs me sometimes but I'm a happy guy most of the time. :smt007
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I second the Crab Hawk Tourney!  I have drill this weekend, so no mods for me till next week.  GB2 if you get it done please post a pic so Ican see how you laid it out.  The 5 inch thing has me slightly confused.  I would like to see how you interpet that.  Is that 5 inches from the top of the trap?

Well here it is. Best to use a high speed reel. :smt005 Cant wait to test it out.

The modified trap works fine. I caught 2 "clickers" yesterday fishing from a yak at HMB. The recommended chicken thigh adds a bit of drag when retrieving so for a deep water drop I would use a whole squid instead. I would also add two 4-6 oz ball weights to get to the bottom faster. Use a beefy rod and a reel with a low gear range. It is surprisingly a bit of work to crank them in, especially with a crab in the trap. I am going to use a stand up tuna rod and a 2 speed avet next time.  :smt003

I use the crabhawk up here off the piers very effectively with a heavy surf rod.  A lot of our yakkers use them on bouys and do great.  Sad to see the one size rule and hope they don't bring that up this way.

I notice on the guys video, that he bends some rods while using this device.  If I recall he recommends using 50lb test on reel.  That is pretty stout for a crab that weighs a 1-2 pounds.  I think it is the resistance of the device.  I notice when hauling up a ring vs a box trap what a huge difference between them.
