ok I will tell you why my best friend tim wants to go fishing but don't want to paddle a long way
I want to go to the berk pier or moss but Tim being a heavy smoker is not up to the task
or I just don't want to save his fat ass if he flips over so the dam it is.

anyways I don't know what lures to use IN fresh water I do have some stuff that I got at a garage sale se pics
I know the flashers are good but the lures I am not to sure so if you have some fresh water exp let me know
I am also going to pickup some Berkley gulp fresh water baits and some more lures any tips on the lures will help

PS I did read the mooches tips on trout so if the moouch reads this help me dude will repay the fav in smelt

thanks insaneduane

Sadly enough, I know something about this lake, DON'T GO! But, if you must, I have trolled a small (realistic) crawdad and have done farly well, last year. Your Rapala type things would do well also, if there were fish there. I just happen to ride my bike to the rec area today, and saw about 2 dozen vetran anglers with 1 catfish to show for their trouble. Also if you go, launch from the muddy rec area, the boat launch closes at 2:00. Interesting fact though. they have 2 new mirages for rent. You have to ask for the drive system, and let them know you know what your doing, they certainly don't...DANGLIN says, " Go somewhere else!"

:smt010 Duane,Dont expect lures to work unless topline trolling w/kastmstr. or needlefish type MAYBE.If you must? go from shore w/the usual powerbait,nitecrwlr/marshmellow&an attractant(smell)WARNING!!!the water level is as LOW/NO SHADE as Ive ever seen it in my "Lustrious"35yrs of fishing there,(backyard damnear)Been there twice in the last 3wks.=16mi. of trolling for a 11"crappie on a deepdive-shad?in back of scowcanyon.GO to Shadow Cliffs in Livermore(no powerboats)Water cystal-clear and Thunder/Lighting-Trout.(Hybrid) If S.P.Muddhole is it?I can try to put you on/near fish or catfish-a-plenty from shore.Reply back if intel?is needed?

All good lures to use Duane  :smt002 Just don't troll the spinners or you will get severe line twist.  :smt011 You can skip the flashers (less drag on the yak - unless you can get hold of the micro flashers from SEPS) and simply use the rapala diving plugs for trolling. The kast masters work great for slow trolling and casting - or if you happen to see active fish on the surface - you can cast the spinners on an active boil as well (usually early in the morning or later in the day)

Drifting your yak with power bait or nightcrawlers would be another way to go, if want a more relaxing way to fish  :smt002 :party

I'm not a big fan of San Pablo either - if I had a choice, I'd go to Del Valle or Shadow Cliffs.

Good luck! Watch out for the boaters who simply have no clue  :beat

Adam = That is a nice catch! I caught my biggest trout ( 8 pounds) and Bass (5 pounds) at Shadow Cliffs (trolling on a rented aluminum) with a shad rap on 4# line...gotta love the water clarity on this lake  :smt023 This is the lake to fish even after weeks of down pour  :smt002 IT used to be a rock quarry so there is little mud on this lake.

I've also done well with catfish near the swim area during my float tube days - I remember gutting 'em and seeing LARGE crawdads stuffed in their stomach  :smt118

thanks for the tips guys I think I will do some trolling in morning and just park it in the afternoon i have a big golf umbrella
that will come in handy should work nice in my ram tube going to zip tie it to some PVC to add some height to it it is extra large
so I should be comfortable all day. but I think I will go to the outdoor pro and pick up some stuff I need to add to my fresh water box

PS my vacation starts on the 23 of June i will be off for 3 weeks my son will be here and i plan to go out allot
he is ready for his first ocean trip he should be he is 15 and six foot 3 last year we went to berk and he paddle
all the way out to the end and was right next to me the whole way CANT WATE yeeeha :smt001

Duane I have always done well trolling between the dam and Scow Canyow on the east side trolling or shore fishing. Also just inside the canyon on the north side where it first flattens out just north of the floating potty. If you shore fish mark the depth of the fish and find a point with a flat spot that depth and fish that with power or marshmellow and a mini crawler. Here is a report from the Chron. I was shore fishing Scow one morning and hooked something huge fought on 4lb for bout 1/2 hour 38" dino WOW what a suprise.
Quote
El Sobrante's San Pablo Reservoir was loaded fairly heavily with trout (2,400 pounds) and catfish (1,250 pounds) last week. The surface temp is 68 degrees, but the fish are still snapping to baits, with the shoreliners getting both trout (PowerBait) and catfish (about anything), and the trollers getting their trout, as well. Also, there are the usual large and somewhat elusive bass back in Scow Canyon, and even some bluegill (red worms or bits of night crawler) and crappie (minnows and minijigs) around and by the boat launch.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Duane,Your probably gonna HOOK UP since you never been! :smt005 Scow Canyon is across from the Main Recreation Area,on the El Sobrante side of San Pablo Dam rd.If shore fishin check the area coming out of S.Canyon and to the left along shore?or to the right? The water is probably clearest down towards the Dam/El Sob. side.GOOD LUCK!your gonna need it :smt009 If you get the urge to hook a Cat?at the boatlaunch/orinda side to the left in the rocks from the point to the left, inside the cove that comes to the(O.K. to drive all the way down to the water on the Closed-side of the launch to untie/launch)Just toss a worm along/close to the rocks and the kittys will get to it.And dont forget!ADD :smt002 a SMELL if you can and FLOAT your bait above the bottom!
