I have a prowler 13 and I am wondering what is the best way to surf launch and transport a crab ring out to the drop area? I have a design in mind, but I know it will turn into a Rube Goldberg in short order.

I just stack them on the front of my x-factor, they seem to ride fine. Make sure you have the rope and buoy coiled neatly with each ring so if it did end up over the side the buoy would pop up to the surface. I've seen a few crabbers secure their ropes coiled inside the pot or to secured to the ring with bungies only to lose them forever on yard sale launches. Also the more custom racks and mounts with tie downs you have on deck the harder it is to manage your gear from the seat or lines when they get caught.  You can't just get up and walk over to free up lines like on a powerboat. Having a simple clean deck is a good thing!

Lots of peeps use some long pve in the rear flush mounts. You can simply drop the pots on the and the PVC will secure the pots thu the mesh. Don't see why that wouldn't work with rings.

Just put them in front of you that way when you are ready to deploy them they would be readily within reach.  You can easily stack 6 rings.  I've even had 5 collapsed promars on my trident too.  Just try to be level when paddling so they dont slide off.

Rings stack nicely in the rear.  I use PolePole's method, of using 2 peices of pvc pipes in the scuppers, drop the rings on them so they are secure and then use a one long bungie from the stern to mid boat for added security.  Clean and simple.  Home depot sells cheap multi colored carabiners on an end cap for a $1, which makes clipping the rope and bouy easy.

I will caution what ever method you use watch that you don't go to high.  your center of gravity moves as you put more weight up higher and higher.  I have watched overly high traps on kayaks alter other boats as they paddle even to the point of falling off.

For surf launch I store them in the tankwell and held in place with 2 large brass clips.
