Anyone do Sand Blasting and Powder Coating? I've got an old Fire Hydrant that I'd like to have blasted and powder coated. It's probably 150lbs.

Maybe try contacting a FD in your area. I know they dress up old hydrants for people who are retiring. They may get you on the right path.

beer and some fresh crab seems to free up people schedule:)

I am sure you can get a metal fab shop to blast it for you. The hard part with and item that large will be heating it. Wouldn't a good enamel paint work? Or are you going to be beating the hell out of it once is "painted"

There's a couple shops down here in the M.H. or Gilroy area that I can hook you up with.  I have an old F.H. that I'd like to get P.C. also so maybe we can work a 2-fer deal.

...... not I just wait patiently for Eric's remarks. :smt012

Like most hydrants, the one I have has decades of layers of paint all over it. Which is why I need it blasted. And powder coating, I'd just like to have a paint on it that I know will last a long time indoors or outdoors. I'd like a candy flake red on it. The reason I posted it up on here is I'm wondering if there is anyone who has a blaster or has access to one at work. I know I can call a shop and have them do it...for a steep price. I'm just seeing who's out there.

If you get it sand blasted and want to paint it yourself, Dupli color makes a ceramic paint (High temp engine paint with ceramic resin) that is some hard stuff. I have used it on all kinds of projects and have had really good luck with it. It withstand the abuse like a powder coat finish would. The trick is to heat the metal prior to painting it for good adhesion.
