Hey guys,

Hopefully someone on this forum has installed a rudder on a 4.3.  Here goes...

I've installed the rudder cables and now I'm asked to secure the foot tracks at their furthest rearward position in preparation for sizing and crimping the rudder cables.  The problem is that the furthest rearward position along the track places the foot track only an inch or two from the forward exit point of the rudder cable.

This doesn't look correct based on the photos in the instructions dated 12/09/11.  I have emailed johnsonoutdoors.nz, but haven't heard back yet.  Hoping someone on this great forum has a clarification for me.

Thanks and best regards,

I havent installed one yet but I might on mine. I would call customer service for Ocean Kayak in the US. All the techs there are well versed in application. You may be seeing a picture of the same rudder assembly installed on another craft made by OK. If you position the tracks where they say, is there enough travel for the footrests to accomodate your leg length?

Here's a good video to watch.

There is a part 2 also.

Should answer your questions.. I installed my rudder on the T-15 to hard to write out what's easier to watch.

Thanks for the video and suggestion on US support.  I'll try them both.

I received a nice email back from John Ingram, the Op. Coordinator for Johnson in NZ.  I (like usual) was over-thinking the issue.  Any foot track location is fine as long as I can reach full left and right rudder.

Thanks again.
