I forgot to mention in my last post, I lead a group of kayaker on a skin diving tour of the starfish beds, on the west side across from Tom's Point.  Several of us saw a school of striped bass, in the 18 to 22' range.  You can get a glimpse of them about 1:18 on this video
I haven't heard anything about stripers in Tomales - anyone caught them there?

I've heard of occasional catches but very few and I've never heard of anyone targeting stripers in there, cool vid, I didn't know there were any organized dives like the one you lead,

Thanks for the reoprt and info.

Very cool. Definetly see them on the freeze frame. Every once in a while someone gets one out there. I remember that guy that was poaching after dark with the lights on his dock to feed his resturaunt had some in his freezer along with halibut and WSB. So they are there occasionally. With all the food in there I wonder why there aren't more tho...?

There have been huge stripers caught in Tomales over the years. The oint at the mouth on Lawsons side produced a fish over 50 lbs in the 70's. Al Schleth caught it fishing from shore. I have caught stripers down at Poison Oak Point with cut anchovie. The largest Ive seen was 5 years ago Across from Inverness in the channel on a ghostie. 36 lbs. At night. There are also sturgeon in the bay.

I think night time is the key. They're vampire stripers and come out at night to feed.

I haven't fished much for stripers on this coast since the 70's, but yup, night was always the key.  I searched and found more into on the restaurant owner and his gill net.  He caught a number of White Sea Bass - that is something I would love to catch (legally)
Anyone catch a WSB in Tomales?
