Went deep on kayak out past mavericks to 120 feet of water (not an easy trip with several scetchy spots, not for beginners) dropped two pots, after about 10 minutes pulled one pot as a test had 5 keepers and 2 lil guys. Will be on water again tomorrow to pull pots and try for rockfish.  Over radio constantly heard people limit out. PB's were averaging 15 critters per pot.

Wait for the HMB report from G-Whiz in a few days. We all did well. For my first time out I got my limit and did the rookie mistake and got pinched by an undersized fella I didn't see in my pot. I'm still bleeding!.Got them home and cooked. Tomorrow I get the joy of cleaning them. :smt013

I learned a super fast way to clean them and it gives you a slightly fresher tasting crab.  While crab is alive hold him down with a butcher knife and then hit knife with a fish bat to split in half. Grab top of shell and pull away. All guts and lungs will come off. Rinse and toss in boiling water.  I use this method and can clean a limit in under fifteen minutes.  Happy eatings

Rather than boiling. Try steaming for 13 minutes. Same prep tho. Doran sucked compared to past years.

Steaming is way better (imho). I steam them whole in beer(6-8) and Old Bay seasoning. Get water boiling, add crabs, after it starts boiling again(steaming good), cook for 18 minutes. I fished on a friends P/B and we got limits for 4 in seven pots. We threw about 10 keepers back, high grading to all commercial size. I have fished the crab opener for about 10 years and this was by far the busiest for HMB that I can remember. Great to see us fishermen out supporting our local economy!!!

Pulled the two pots today that I soaked overnight at about 120 feet of water. First pot had 13 jumbo size critters. Kept the ten biggest. The second pot had 11, all were tossed back in.  Also picked up two rock fish to round out the trip.
