Good job Chris... What kind of trolling rig were you using?  Was there a particular part of the tide that seemed to be best?

flasher/chovy.the tide was high, but the wind was the factor.  we could only fish in the lee of that hill.  our area got smaller and smaller until it disappeared.  i don't think we can effectively troll that rig from a kayak.  in my power boat,  i adjust each rig[my friend's gear also] every few minutes, and the speed remains constant.  in a kayak, every time you adjust the gear[to keep it near the bottom, but not fouled with mud] you lose speed.

ps. i am eating one now, yum :smt005

could do it with a hobie style kayak? hold rig in your hands, let out line or reel it as necessary?

Absolutely!   Hobie's pedal drives are ideal for trolling.

Awwwww...  I think I could troll that rig with a conventional yak.  Gonna try it out on Saturday anyway.

I think if you use a small spreader bar it would help from getting fouled.   If not I'll just ditch the flasher to simplify the rig.

i skip the spreader and use a 3 way snap. i think the flasher/dodger is the most important part,  it gives the dead anchovy action.  but if anyone can do it, you have a good chance erik; in that sleek marauder.

yeah, I have to say my appreciation for erik's skills on the water is still going up a year after reading this board.

I learn something from all of his reports. I was wondering about those spreaders.

3-way set-ups with or without the spreader is a pain-in-the-ass on a kayak, so I ditched the 3-way and simply used a cannon ball sinker in-line and in front of my flashers.  A heavy in-line banana weight would work well too.  Keeping the set up close to the bottom isn't too much of a problem since the bay is relatively shallow and we're really not moving very fast anyway.  I just make it a point to bounce the bottom every now and then to make sure I'm in the target zone.

About 10" between weight and flasher and 3' to the bait.
