Got to Pt. Reyes around 11:30.  Looked at North Beach and thought a couple of spots looked launchable.  Drove to South Beach for a look see.  Decided one spot south of the restrooms looked doable. Got out with no trouble around 1:00ish.  Paddled out three miles to 38 02, 123 05. Dropped in past the halfway point and trolled the rest of the way.  No hits and just a couple of fish marked on my sounder.  Turned around at 4:20 and hooked up at 4:30 in 200' 60 pulls with watermelon Apex and green diver(#1)  - lost it at the boat  (grrr)  Hooked up again at 5:00 in 180', again 60 pulls,  and landed a fat 28"er (12 Lbs or so.)  Hooked up again closer to the surface in 150' and landed my 22" go-home fish.  Marked more fish in that area - 1.5 miles out maybe?  Packed up my gear and followed my GPS track back to the launch spot.  Got 5 feet from the beach and performed my first Sand In The Ears (SITE) landing.  Lost a couple minor items but didn't enjoy losing my glasses.  (the drive home was a blurr)  Pics to be posted later.

Out.

Nice work Johnathan.  Nice when a plan comes together.

You really put in some effort for those fish... long drive... long paddle... rough landing... driving home on the wrong side of the highway without your glasses...

Good work!!!

way to get it done!

I find as you get older, the hair growing out of your ears keeps out the bigger grains of sand,   :bigsmurf: :smt045

Thanks, folks!

Allen, I was using a Watermelon Apex behind a green diving plane that has a 3.75 oz weight on it (size #1).  All fish hooked trolling, since I saw no bait balls to stop on.

Scott, sorry I messed up the landing and we couldn't get out there today.  We should head to S.C. and hookup with Allen Bushnell soon.

I'm impressed that you got out, let alone got back in, at Pt Reyes. I've never seen that place without roaring surf.

Sorry you didn't see the note I posted last week:
" I'm blind without my glasses, so I've got a solid fabric-covered case with clip clasp for the clear/sunglasses clipped and tied onto my life jacket, and my glasses strap (not a Croakie, the kind with rubber eyes on the end) has a thin bungie loop to go around my neck in case they get washed off in a wipe out.  I used to windsurf, and I never lost them in some nasty wipeouts.  If you wear glasses, make sure they're washed clean with soap before going out in fog, it'll keep them from getting fogged up.  Some people use liquid furniture polish after cleaning them to fog proof them -smear it on, polish off with cloth."

Correction:

After looking again, I headed to 38 05/123 02 NOT 02/05

I launched from the area in the lower right corner of this picture:

The swell was smaller than in this shot.

Jnthn - amazing, I have that same pic open in a different tab of my browser.

My wife (6 mo's pregnant) said "Absolutely NO!" to the idea of my going solo, and my spare paddle wasn't in the back of truck. So it wasn't to be. Maybe we'll meet up at the HMB derby.
