When I use braid (not that often these days) I use a top shot tied on with an Albright knot (about 25+ turns). It slides through the guides really well because all the wraps are with the braid. The mono only makes a "U" shape. It's a tricky one to tie, but like any knot, it clicks.

I like about a 10 foot top shot to absorb shocks and avoid ripping fishes faces off...
