last time we were in Port Costa (across from Benicia) we saw a couple recreational kayakers out along the shore. Was wondering if anyone had any experience with yak fishing from there? Usually we are shore fishing for striped bass, but figure its gotta be better on a yak. Also haven't ever heard of any salmon along that side of the strait...any advice?  How about crockett?

Hahaha my bad , not sure about port costa but I dont see why you coudlnt launch at ekley pier , maybe troll around for salmon or stripers. Me personally.....I would fish an income tide  on anchor for some big sturgeon.

Along that shoreline has good striper action and sturgeon. But the closer u get echley pier the current rips really good. There is a deep channel in the area.. A lot of structure to hold stripers and bait.

You can launch at Eckley, or Crockett, or Port Costa, or along the Martinez shoreline west of town.  The Ozol area west of Martinez is popular for sturgeon and stripers. Once you get west of that you see very little fishing till you're back out to SPB.  The current absolutely rips thru the area so if you go plan your trips with the tide or hug the shoreline.

And if you go, post up a report.

Thanks for all the tips.  Decided to go to Crockett later.  Will post if I catch anything.

ended launching off the rocks at Crockett next to the Nantuckett restaurant. Got there late at the outgoing...nothing in the water while trolling. didn't see much on the FF either. Saw one legal striper caught from shore. Ended up catching a 16" from shore at the end of the day. Talked to another shore guy and similar story with a undersize.
