Why would you be sued? He was on your property and put the ka-bong on himself.
This is Cali. That kind of stuff happens here.
Senerio- Dude breaks into your house. you shoot him. he lives. he sues. and wins.
This is a story Ive heard before, but cant confirm.

It's all about intent, if you intended to maim or inflict harm you could still be sued, if your intent was to kill and the assailant lives then I think then I think you are covered under law. I think is how it work.

Good story.   Unfortunately, with prison overcrowding and realignment even if the theif was arrested he probably wouldn't serve much time.

Poor guy .....he was probably just astonished at the engineering marvel that is the 10 yak rack on a cabriolet.  He moved in for a closer look to make sure he wasn't seeing a mirage then got startled by the booming voice of weimarron and bumpes his head.

The Burglar through the Skylight

The movie “Liar Liar” recycled the yarn about the burglar who fell through a skylight and sued the homeowner over his injuries. This widely circulated legend originated in Redding, Calif. A 19-year-old went on the roof of the high school where he had graduated. He fell through a skylight that had been painted over and was left a quadriplegic. After another student had previously fallen through a painted-over skylight at a nearby school, the Redding school contracted with a local concern to board over the skylight to prevent such accidents. Because the Redding school knew of the danger for months without getting the skylight fixed, the school settled with the youth. When President Reagan lamented that a jury had awarded the money to a burglar, he invented the jury and treated a trespasser as a burglar. --
