Hit San Diego bay with my bro-in-law -launching at tidelands park saturday.  figured out the spotty and sandy technique with my ultalight spinning gear, was really fun as we landed about 10-15 little sandies each.  towards end of day in howling wind we paddled over to a dock, with a sweet 20 foot drop off in about 10 horizontal feet.  Greg was way back in there in about 5 feet of water, jigging over some marks.  I pulled up next to him, plopped a cast under the dock in 4 feet of water- bam fish on. Turned out to be a 20" flattie!  That thing fought like hell on ultralight....  released him. figured there might be another- even called it - cast back in- THUNK! another shorter one about 18".
That was the highlight of saturday-- only the fourth and fifth flattie i've got casting a lure.

Monday we launched same- after chickening out at the LJ launch- figured it would be nasty later, and neither of us felt like getting wet.  Managed more spotties and sandies- some actually nice sized- up to 3lbs or so. Got some macks as well...ended early for BBQ.

Headed back down in late july or early aug it looks like....

Did you take your boat, Steve?  We are trying to figure out how to fish when we are down there without taking boats every time.
Saltwater is the cure for everything that ails us,
sweat, tear or the sea.

I did take my boat, but you can easily rent down there.  There are loads of places and/or guys that have extra boats...
