My first Huddleston fish from a Kayak

Over the last few years I've really been fishing swimbaits hard from my boat. I usually dont even bring my swimbait rods on my yak because it's hard to cast these big lures sitting down. I called Lafayette and the ranger said they just stocked catfish a few days before so I decided to get the yak wet and bring my big baits. I grabbed a dark color 8" Huddelston and headed out to the dam where they drop the catfish in. I used a fast sink (ROF 16) and fished the bait on the bottom in about 40 feet of water trying to imitate a stocked channel catfish. 10 minutes into it I had a hard bite but the fish was only hooked for about 5 secs. Then nothing for about an hour.... Finally I hooked one and this time he stayed on. Wasnt the biggest fish but it pulled me around a bit. I didnt weigh it but I was thinking between 5 and 6 lbs. I also decided I would bring my swimbait gear on my yak more often, it was really fun

MILLIONS of baby bass! I have been going to lafayette since the mid 90's and I have never seen anything like it. They must have had a great spawn this year. All the bass I caught were nice and fat, they are probably targeting those huge schools of 4"-6" baby bass.

Congrats on that swimbait lmb! Got my first ones on a swimbait & also the A-rig in the last year but like throwing the single bait better cause they cast farther and easier to be weedless too. jim
