Went to the lake with my grad student and a former seasonal employee (now a grown up biologist).  Both of these guys live and breathe fish, but both have been blanked at Mendo repeatedly.  We met up early, to get on the o-dark-thirty bite.  We got to the lake at around 0530 and the topwater was already on.  It took a bit to finally make bait, but once we did it we had a nice load of big GRADE A+ bait...a good sign!!!

Striper candy!!!!

Fish were busting hard near good old Crapie Cove.  We hit the gas and baited up once we got in the neighborhood.  We trolled about for about 10 minutes and Josh found himself smack in the middle of a nice fat boil.  Within seconds his bait rod was bent...woohoo striper skunk gone! After about 30 seconds his line snapped...DOH! Striper skunk back on!!  He grabbed his spinning rig and made a cast right into the guts of the boil and he he got drilled again...woohoo striper skunk off again!!!

After a nice long battle Josh boated his first striper.  Josh said thanks to the Mr. Lineside and released it.

In the mean time my bait rod went off too.  The fish was smaller, but gamey.  Nice fight and I boated a football of a 6.5 pounder.  Joe then got bent in the middle of Crappie Cove.  Joe was on his way to de-skunking when he gotwrapped on the bottom...fish gone  :smt010 I had a demo show up super early so I had to paddle back to the launch and meet "Going Postal" (scary name VERY nice guy).

The whole time I was on the other side I could see the boys in the middle of the zone.  I was hoping Joe would get a second chance too.  I hooked up with them again and Joe had scored his first striper ...

Water was glassy the entire AM, and 68 degrees.  Another great day!!!

Way to go.  The striper seems to be eluding me these days.  I don' think I have gone this long without one.  May 20th of last year. You guys are really making me Jelous up there.

Nice fish!

Sean hooked me up today with a beautyful new lime green XFactor! First thing tomorrow I'll be on the water in Fort Bragg prying some bugs off the rocks.

I'll post some photo's.

Thanks again Sean!!!!!

Loch-I don't think you can sabiki them, I have tried.  There mouth is TINY and they just don't seem interested.  Gotta get the blue net!

Mahi-The green you picked really did come out super cool, the new color is excellent.  We'll be in FB tomorrow too.
