on second thought it's perfect for fishing kayak tourneys thats the only time i would be out there anyways and after reading about all the yakers that were looking for a guy in the water at gs6 and not knowing where he was i think something even this small would get some attention and its small enough to fit it the pocket of my pfd  :smt002

That is a neat little rig. Do the flares have an expiration date?

I carry 3 handhelds in my PFD, and I have to switch them out every few years.

Sorry, when I posted that link yesterday the wife was rushing me out of the house, so I didn't comment.  :smt002 I have a similar pen flare, Vietnam War era, that I picked up in a storage locker auction in the late 80's. The flares are about the same size but it looks like they load differently. I have 3 left...shot one off at the local football field one night about 15 years ago. Nice red flare, shot easily 100 feet, probably higher. Sadly I've never been able to find replacement flares anywhere online. I carry a few of the handheld marine flares in my vest when on the water, the pen flare sits in my emergency bugout bag.

Thank you for the link.I would like to fire one off just to see what it will do.I will have to wait till i find a place where i wont cause a false emergency situation. :smt001
