Got out again on a friend's boat (21' Arima) and had a great time.  Launched around 8am and headed for deadmans- north 10 miles.  Fished in 50- 300 feet of water, finally landed one 20 lb.  Then got a couple of heavy take downs, one broke the line quickly, think it might have been a large halibut.  The other was a salmon that yelled for the sea lion to help him keep from getting eaten by a 6 foot salmon shark that breached 2 feet off the water.  Never seen one before or even heard of one.  Looks like a great white only shorter.  Well, that was exiting to say the least.  Buddy Ken and wife Cindy been boat fishing for 60 years and never heard of it or seen one either so it made our day.  between the beauty of the coastline and the calm conditions for witnessing the raw elemental power of nature it was a day I won't forget.  I don't have a picture except for the one indelibly imprinted in my brain, sorry.  google salmon shark.

Those Avet reels 5.8/1 are very nice for varying drag on the fly.  Barbequed the salmon two hours after it came out of the water, wow gotta pat myself on the back, i'm getting good at the barbie with salmon at least...

The salmon bite has been spotty in the cove, but just being out there is a hoot anyway, enjoy, Lyle

Tea House Lyle?  Long time no see!  Congrats on the great day!

A buddy and I found about a 3' shark washed up on the beach down near Bear Harbor years ago - looked just like a mini GWS - heard later it was likely a salmon shark.

Sounds like you had a great day. I'll try to make it out to SC in the next few weeks. Tasty halibut and salmon...

Yep- teahouse Lyle here.  Closing the restaurant for good in a week, thanks to all of you via Sonny for your overwelming support.  Marilyn will still sell her re-purposed cashmere sweaters, $30.00, and nicknacks and we still will live upstairs.  We'll be gone for a couple months but after that my scupper pro TW is fish ready-hit me up if you are coming up.

By the way, purchased a new Bushnell Backtrack, $25.00 on ebay, digital GPS which has 3 waypoints and compass.  GPS is in a clear waterproof bag mounted down from face.  Cheap backup for foggy situations.  I'll mark the jetty, the turn point beyond the rocks, and any 3rd point of interest like whistle buoy red can. Then I won't be afraid to venture out in fog.  Cheers

Congrats on the salmon Lyle!  We sure are going to miss having all that excellent food at your tea house next year.  Say hi to Marilyn and hope to see you both next year.
