Anyone know of a rod repair shop in NorCal ? I managed to pop out, and lose the ceramic inserts on the guide tips on two rods at Albion during frantic reel ups pulling a swivel through the tip, doh!

There is a place in Lodi called Fishermans Friend, that may be a bit to far though.

If you can't find a shop DIY for that is fairly easy. The only hard part is sizing the tips so you know which ones to purchase.

All you have to do is cut the epoxy and thread off of the damaged one with a fresh razor being careful not to nick the blank. Then add a small amount of hot tip glue to the end of the blank and slide on the replacement in alignment with the guides. Another short blast of heat to the new tip will draw the glue in and then you check alignment. Last step is to remove the excess glue. Done.

If you have calipers you can measure the tip without the tip guide on to determine the size and which guides you need to order. Tip glue is very inexpensive and you have the option of installing a high quality tip that is IMO the most important guide for friction reduction.

Easy DIY, but don't cut your thread wrap off, the wrap at the tip doesn't usually go over the sleeve of the tip guide. Just heat what's left of the tip (not too much) and it'll pop right off. Take to wherever you're gonna get the replacement so you can match the size. Get the rod tip glue and put it on as Meat Hunter describes. Easy peasy.
