Bicycled around Capitola today to gawk at all the San Josers and Valleyfolk who came over for Memorial day weekend.  Ended up on the wharf, as usual, bugging Ed about fish.  He was filleting at nice ling at the tables when I came up.

Anyway, I met a guy with an icechest at the top of the ramp and he let me take a peek inside.  8 big lings and 2 nice halibut -- one around 28 inches, the other fatty-flatty closer to 36.

Sweet spot is, if he can be trusted, around 50 feet of water straight off of 38th ave/Jack's house.

Now all I need to do is find a day without baby duty or work that I can pursue them.  Allen?  You free again Thursday?

Hey Red,

Am I missing something here?  I thought lings were closed until July 1st.  Were they diving or am I confused as usual or both?

yes lings are out of season until july then they can be had by floating vessel. however, if spearing for them then its legal.or if they are fishing from shore. i don't many people who spearfish the capitola area. although i am sure there could be nice halibut there. maybe we can get some tips! tell me where the WSB are. :smt007

8 lings, out of season unless diving.  Did he have four friends with him?  That is a lot of ling action.
