The weather system that moved through this weekend seemed to slow things down a bit on the BIG bass pond. The rip stopped cold and it seemed that only soft plastics, with a agonizingly slow presentation, were productive. Alot of big bass were suspended in the deeper sections of Kelsey Creek but they seemed to just want to swim next to the kayak until I reached for a rod. Most of the fish on Clear Lake were taken tight to the tullies and fishing VERY slow.
Fished Blue Lakes on sunday and had a good day at the narrows (both sides) with similiar presentations. A texas style "brushhog" or a wacky senko (both in green pumpkin with black or red flakes) fooled fish. Seems that whether you are fishing for trout or bass on "Blue" that the color of choice is green.
Will be at Highland Springs Res. tommorrow and hopefully the sun will bring back the bite.

This is actually further east of the state and county parks. I believe its called Rumsey slough and Thompson creek runs into it.  This area is between Lakeport and the Casino in the south/east corner of the lake. Most of the fish seemed to be in the tullies along the shoreline of the coves that the creek ran into.
Highland springs was slow but I stuck to swim baits since past exp. there had blue gill ripping apart my sinking worms before the bass ever saw them. I had good luck there last year but nothing of real size.
As far as the when, where, and how to catch a Hog?  Ill let you know when I find out. But so far Ive caught most of my larger fish right in the middle of the day (go figure) and fishing plastics. The word on the street is slow, slower, and slowest of presentations, which as you know can be pretty tough to do while trying to convince a kayak to hold still in the winds that have been blowing through northern cal these days.
