Hey guys. I just took this Hobie in today on consignment. I personally know very little about pedal kayaks. This one does not seem to have a serial # on the stern like most boats to. Its called a Hobie Mirage. Looks like the original pedal drive. The amazing part it the seat, pedals, hatches and rudder all look brand new. The hull was stored outside in the sun so it has some fading , but it has very minimal scratches. Any clue what something like this might be worth? How about a year model? Thanks Hobie guys!

Try and upload the pic, I believe its an original since it doesn't have a name such as the revo or outback. When I had the tandem it was just called the Hobie Mirage Tandem. It has the version one drive and the original rudder.

Hobie Mirage Classic.

It should have a serial somewhere on the stern.

Looks fast!

Quote from:  "Hobie Forum"
The Classic is a great little boat. This was Hobie's original Mirage kayak before it was renamed years later. I think they were built from late 1997 until 2006.

The earliest version was fiberglass. Tthere are a few of these still around and some folks consider them collectors boats. The current rotomolding manufacturing process was begun in about 1999 I think. there were some technical improvements over the years but the basic layout stayed about the same until the '06 models, which got some nice cockpit improvements and the ability to use a standard Hobie scupper cart.

They are (almost) the only Hobie Mirage that lacks the ability to use a sail. None of them had the Twist N stow rudder. But they are fun, lightweight and quick for their size, especially with Turbofins.

The year model is shown in the last two digits of the serial # (hand inscribed near the stern somewhere on the bottom of the hull). Price should be commensurate with condition. Look at the condition of the bottom of the hull for a good guideline. Determine of the boat was stored inside or outside. Look at the Drive and operate it with your hands. Almost all parts are still available. The complete boat would include seat, operating rudder, Mirage Drive, drivewell plug (used for paddling) and paddle.

Plus 1 on the looks fast,
I like the lines on the bow, more like a trident than a Revo.
Is there a hatch that accesses the front hull?
More pics would be cool :smt004

The serial number may be very faint, the 3 hulls I've had (All outbacks) the serial numbers were located at the stern, on the underside.  They were hard to see until I highlighted them by rubbing dirt over the area. (My hull is kept outside and dirt was the quickest method)

Dont think its an original. The first gen had an open tankwell, not a rear cover?  Those babies are fast

Chuck that was the exact yak. Thanks for the info. A guy came and bought it the other day. He was so stoked to find it, I guess he has been looking for one that was in good shape for a while. Glad to see it go to a good home.
