So long story short the wife and I separated and while stuff was being moved around my mini freezer got unplugged. Inside was 3 or 4 vaccum sealed bags of halibut caught in May. I think the unplugging happened in late June and was certainly my fault.

Fast foreward to a week ago and I'm sitting there in my apartment wondering what the hell that nasty smell is that won't go away. So I searched a bit with the nose and innocently popped open my freezer to check on my precious hali fillets and BAM!  :smt009 :smt044  I was instantly dry heaving and thankfully I had an empty stomach because I would have been spraying vomit all over the place. Now I have been exposed to some adverse smells in my time including open colostomy bags and old squid juice and those were no comparison. The smell was like garlic mixed with trash times a 1000. Almost no fish smell. None of the bags leaked but a few were inflated.

Anyone know a good way to remove the smell or did I just trash the freezer? I cleaned it 3 times with bleach and it still has noticeable odor after 4 days of sitting outside open. :smt011 :smt003

sorry to hear you about the stink bomb! Try using baking soda and spread it thick in the affected area. You could get big bags of baking soda at smart and final. good luck and let us know what the results are.

or Just pour gasoline on it and lite it up :smt002.

Definitely baking soda. Sorry about the break up also. Good luck.
