Going out for salmon Tommorrow. Have a Lowrance mark 4 fish finder. Should I be able to see my line/bait in my screen while jigging?
Also, can somebody explain "counting pulls"?

Thank you

When I "count pulls", I know that if I pull the line (while thumbing the reel) the distance of the reel to the first eye = 2' (about).  If I need to mooch at, lets say, 60' that would be 30 "pulls" of line from the reel to the first eye + a couple extra for good luck.  Others prefer to pull in 1' lengths.  Other way around it is a line counter reel or a line counter for your rod.  I've had great success on party boats with the "count pulls" method.  Tend to do better than most on a party boat that way.

you can also see how much line comes off your reel with each pass.  So for example with the line at the left end of the spool, you measure how much line comes off to reach the right side of the spool.  Usually 4-7 feet depending on the reel. My problem with this is that I forget which reel was 5 ft vs 7 ft.

Per E2G but it needs to be a level wind reel measuring frofrom when the guide travels from one end to the other end. I mark mine with a Sharpie pen on the reel to remind me of how much line that is

I tried the sharpie thing but I never had much luck with it.  Mine always wore off while thumbing the line with a fish.  It was a much faster way of hitting your desire depth, however (as compared to "count pulling")

In general 1pull is usually equals to 1ft. and you might hear the term stops used also =1ft. While mooching for salmon i usually do one foot pulls every few seconds to make sure my leader doesn't get tangled on my main line on the way down. also it covers top to bottom. salmon will hit on the way down and on the way up. Good luck and have fun.
