shows how far keeping your head can take you.
If they had freaked and splashed toward the boat I would guess the fish would have tried a bite.
Way to keep cool under pressure guys!

awesome footage.

I'm imagining myself in the water with that shark...at what point do I decide that when it turns in my direction that it is going into bite mode and pull my trigger to shoot it in the eye and try and get it to go the F away....

I agree that they played it 100% right...but if the shark had moved into bite and they hadn't got a shot off than maybe I would think different?

Having two of them there together definitely helped as well!!

I think if it wanted them it would have taken them.  How can anyone watch Shark Week and think they can defend themselves.  You might get lucky with an eye shot or something, but it would most likely be like fighting off a freight train with a pool noodle.

Absolutely incredible video!

You'd probably be better off not shooting. Once you shoot, you no longer have a prodder between you and the shark. Besides, a shark coming at you like that wouldn't be in attack mode... they're way too cautious as apex predators. Maybe a curiosity bite (very, very unlikely), but in that case a series of pokes would keep it at bay (like in the video).

Can't say that I'd keep my head in that situation, but looking at the video, my immediate thoughts are  that the shark is displaying body language that says "I'm curious", not "I want to bite you".

Of course, a curiosity bite probably doesn't feel all good either...
