Howdy folks,

Getting an early start on a camping trip w/ some friends - I'm hoping to get up to Ft Bragg by sunrise (from the Bay Area) and get a jump on some fishing & crabbing. This will be my first fishing trip on the ocean on the yak - paddled before, but never fished... always happy to have some company - I'll be wearing the blue OK Prowler :) Figured I'd launch from that parking lot below the Noyo bridge (west of the bridge), short walk to the beach. If anyone has better locations (the weather is supposed to be awesome), I'm open for suggestions!! Thanks -

Aaron

You are aware that there is a small craft advisory for the area tomorrow, right?

Be safe! Hopefully there's a window in the morning for you to get out.

Tuesday: NW wind 13 to 17 kt. Patchy fog before 11am. Mixed swell...WNW 6 ft at 9 seconds and W 1 to 2 ft at 17 seconds. Wind waves 3 to 4 ft.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Hey man, thanks... I was getting my info from another site - I'll look around a little deeper. We'll see what happens when I get there - wasn't planning on going out very far... just enough to drop some crab pots & do a little rockfishing.

Hey bud :smt002. I fished there last thursday and did well.If you are going to use any crab pots i suggest setting them about 80 yards off of the jetti and to the right of the boat channel. We set 3 pots on thursday,1 in close(80 yards) and 2 way out. The 2 that were set way out were not productive at all unless you like the to look at huge starfish :smt003. The pot that was in closer did well, we had 15 keepers all together. For the fishing we caught 25 keepers between the 3 of us.We caught most of them on the rocks between the point and the green buoy. Just make sure if it is a - tide, to watch out for the rocks that are barely under water. With a swell they can be a pain in the ass. My advice would be to paddle out to the green bouy strait out from the beach and then move in twards the point. I will check the swell as well for ya.If you go to "fort bragg swell info it will show you whats up. It say it will have shoulder heith swells with a 25 mph wind.Oh yeah and watch out for boat wakes coming in and out of the harbor, good luck reel em in pal :smt001
IF IT SMELLS LIKE FISH EAT IT!

Thanks guys - fishing was a total bust... my fishing partner was getting his surf report from a SURFING website - I should've checked NOAA. Water & wind were KILLIN', kayak sat on the roof of the Subaru the entire time... surf fishing at the Jetty was crap, and so was any kind of surf fishing. Good times though, great to hang with friends & camp on the beach in the gale-force winds :). Maybe next time...
