should have taken pictures, but took the old man to tomales bay this morning and got a bunch of oysters, extra smalls for raw and large for bbq, had a few in the parking lot for quality control, then headed to marshal store for a barley pop and sandwiches, then up the coast to give mother ocean the finger for all this wind, then back to the burg for a shellfish feast in the garden, raw oysters with golden balsamic mignotte, lemon wedges, tabasco, and bbq oysters with basil garlic butter, chipotle butter and ginger lemongrass butter, needless to say, the 3 of us and nearly 100 oyster= happy campers,  cameron

I havent seen upwelling/warm push/hard breaks like this season for many years. Just a deg F or two and it'll bust open. We need to talk to Tom and get this mothership thing going.

this is the idea that is forming off of central cali, according to my harbor and NOAA sources. Our currents this year are quite different from the last few seasons. It will be interesting to see what that brings in fish, as well as terrestrial weather.

although it seems like usually everyone here is complaining about wind on the salt this time of year.

I don't think the ocean got the memo though, its supposed to be june gloom, gray days, fog and little to no wind! Could be worse, we had those couple years that didn't blow at all and the forage conditions sucked, right along with the salmon fishing.  20' vis while ab diving didn't suck though.  :smt001

The wind is coming down at the end of the week.  Albacore will hit the west coast somehwere between Fort Bragg to Westport, Wa with the best bet being Crescent City,Ca  to Newport,Or.  The birds and bait were there for some guys that went 40 miles west out of Newport recently, but no tuna.  Helceta banks = 1st albies on west coast either from Coos or Newport <------ my bet

From Humboldttuna.com: A look at the latest GFS model is showing a couple of interesting features - but we're going to have to wait a little longer.  The first is the passage of a trough through Washington and BC around 22 - 23 June which will stop the north wind machine for at least a day or two.  It's unclear how far south this will affect near and offshore waters but right now it's primarily an Oregon deal... maybe as far south as Crescent City.

Of greater interest is the forecast formation of a closed low which will drift in off northern California around the 24th.  If this happens - the folks from about Fort Bragg north could have a big reason to smile.  As we have discussed in the past, closed lows are difficult to forecast - so I'm not too excited yet.

Next weekend til middle of next week Im predicting some major AOTY upgrades and a few hundred points for NCKA TOO
A 190-200pt AOTY salmon will be in my lap sometime in the next 10 days.... :smt044 :smt044 :smt002
