The back end is perfect for kayaks - use the second launch not the one close to the entrance. The lake is supposed to have a decent SMB fishery. Ask Tote, he knows it better.

I fished this lake off the bank two years ago, and have been wanting to go back ever since I got my yak.  Garlic powerbait off the bank resulted in three very nice sized trout.  There is a ramp by the boat rental and lots of quiet water.  I tried the area by the entrance (spillway?) but it was pretty crowded.

BEAUTIFUL lake!!!  But, its usually crowded from what I hear during the summer.  Check with Tote, he lives just minutes from it.

The lake is a real looker.

I haven't caught many fish in two attempts. Heard stories of epic trout days but I think the lake has a well deserved "tough fishing" rep.

Then again, tough fishing lakes often have a gold mine key to those in the know...

I just don't have the key  :smt044

My MistralWind picture was taken at Sly Park. Fun lake to kayak sail.

I got into some good smallie action last year from the bank, but would like to do more with the kayak up there this year. Just not sure what part o the lake to hit, there was hella ski boat traffic after 10 am everyday.

Smallmouth are on beds and largemouth are staged.  Throw 4 and 5" senkos.  Hula grub on a 3/8 football and reaction innovations little dippers on 1/8 darters or Alabama rigs.   Plenty of power bait trout.  Browns there I only get when it's colder.  They have makinaw, but never caught one there.  I would go all the way in the back to the incoming water.

You can fish plastics in the back (5mph zone so the lice aren't too bad) for smallies. Morning dawn seems to be a really good color to use there.
You can also troll the usual set up for rainbows through there.
If you want a mack troll the bottom of the lake (100 ft) with a dodger and a red/black needlefish.
Troll a straight line between the island and the Peninsula. Most will be cookie cutter size around 20''.
For rainbows troll a humdinger throught the slot between the island and shore.
There will be a ton of traffic on the lake on the weekends.
By Saturday at noon the water should be a bit stained from all the shore slap from the boats.
You can launch in the very back if you want to hit the 5mph zone immediately. When you pay at the entrance continue driving straight. It's just under 2 miles to the launch I think. You canalways ask them.
Also don't get there too early. The gates open at 7:30, but you might want to call to verify that.
Good luck.
