Ok, I've been having a lot of issues with my sonars over the past few years (I've actually gone through 4 pieces now)-wierd blips, intermittent recpetion, bad power cords, blank screens etc. etc...I've tried many fix its, some working temporarily just to give out after awhile. It could be that I buy the cheaper models, the salt and grime, or the fact that, as a guide, I usually fish my kayak 40-50 days in a season and put them through a lot of abnormal conditions.  It just goes to show that most sonar manufacturers don't make their fish finders for kayak fishermen-- or maybe I'm too rough on them.
The season is now upon us and I'm stacking up the guide work, and I want to look into getting an affordable portable FF. Any brand recommendations? i figured I'd ask on the board as a lot of you guys seem to be tek savvy. I want the type that I can suction the transducer to the bottom.
Thanks and good luck out on the water

Hiya Brendan,

When I made my own "portable" battery holder, my cheap little Piranha found new life on my little boat.  I use my Prowler most of the time but the couple of times I've used this new set up on the Venus, with a suction holder for the puck it has done fine.
Saltwater is the cure for everything that ails us,
sweat, tear or the sea.
