I have to drive someone to Brentwood tomorrow and have some time to burn while I wait. Looking at googlemaps, I notice that it is near Big Break, Discovery Bay, and other bodies of water. I am not familiar with this area at all, so I was looking for somewhere nearby I can fish for couple hours to burn time.

I have heard of people bass fishing at discovery bay and that would be the closest and most preferred.  So if anyone can point me towards a fishable area in discovery bay, that would be great.  Most likely will try for bass or maybe even stripers if anyone knows of an area nearby that I can try for stripers.

Not looking for anyone's hotspots (though that would be nice  :smt003), but some guidance to the closest access to fishable waters.  Any info/directions would be appreciated.  If you're concerned about pointing out a spot, PM is ok.  Thanks in advance.

Big Break Marina in Oakley.  There is a launch there and Adventure Sports new store just opened up there at the marina too.  Not sure how the fishing is but I saw some bass boats in that area last weekend so I would imagine it is decent.

Good Luck.

The only place I seen people fish is the dock at the boardwalk marina or was the name broadway can't remember it's been a while but there's alo of docks overthere and the streets that go behind the houseses and complex have a lot of cover so you can drive by there and check it out.I never got a chance to fish it but I've seen people pull lmb out of there.should keep you occupied for a couple of hours.
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Del Valle Reservoir is about 30 to 40 minutes away. Its a great trout lake might be something to look into

Del Valle Reservoir is about 30 to 40 minutes away. It used to be a great trout lake a couple years back but don't waste your time now.

I fixed it for you!  :smt044

I've read the hot WON reports but am super skeptical of them.  In my estimation, it's the marina baiting you to come - pun intended.  :smt003

Unfortunately, I don't have any recommendations for the area.

I have caught quite a few decent Stripers out of Big Break.  It 's an easy pedal/paddle from the Marina to an open are that's usually productive.  Live bait seems to work best but rattle traps have also produced fish in this area.

:smt007 Disco bay. There is a bait shop just down the street across from the McDonalds. they have Minnows(if your into that) I like to bobber fish near the docks Minnows and Nightcrawlers work well for LMB and drop a 1/4 oz sliding sinker Down to the bottom for stripe about 10-30 feet of water. Its hit and mis but when the're there its a hell of a alot of fun. Plus free to launch. You dont have to go to far either. spend time working one of the TOO MANY inlets. work the structure and shade of the docks......Hope you get a big one  :smt044 :smt044

I've been fishing for bass at Bethel Island. There are a bunch of marinas there.  I've used Sunset Marina, but I plan to use Emerald Point next time.  It's closer to where I fish.  I like Bethel Island because there are houses and docks with a 5 mph zone everywhere.   You don't have to worry about PB's.  There are also a bunch of docks where houses were supposed to be built, but they ran out of money.  You can tie up your kayak and fish off the docks.

thanks for all the tips/suggestions guys, I ended up seeing most of them when I got back however.  Woke up late that morning so I didn't end up taking the yak, but I ended up bank fishing at the Discovery Bay marina area along the levee.  Fished t-rig senko the whole time...no love from the bass but interestingly enough, I hooked into what seemed to be a catfish as it came to the surface, right before it went bezerk and broke me off on 8lb test.  First time hooking a catfish and weird enough, on a senko.

No less than 15lbs line for me in the delta.

well noted.

when in doubt, I try to use lighter test line, but I guess the delta isn't the place to be screwing around with light line.

now i know and knowing half the battle!  haha.
