All,

Fished for about 5 hours and trolled up one trout on a flatlined crappie jig.  Water is clearing nicely, but it looks as though an algae bloom is looming.  Surface temp is almost 70 degrees.  It got hot and I left as the wind came up.

Most people seemed to have a fish or two that I talked to.

How do you think the lake is going to be for the derby on Father's Day??

Lots of surface algae goo I would think.

The water will be warm so if your into trout you will need to get your bait a bit deeper..

What was the conclusion to the separate (bass trout) deal?

No idea on the trout/bass deal. Given our recent derby hit percentage I would vote for biggest fish and have a weigh boat for the bass but it is not my gig.

OK.

If it is a biggest fish deal, it is a no brainer, everyone will be bass fishing......

It should be fun though.

I had an SR7 tied on, but didn't do any bass fishing as the wife sent me out to get diner.  After 5 hours of trolling, the wind came up and bass fishing in the wind on a kayak is almost impossible.

Next time.

Probably wednesday.

mol, what about using swim fins on the kayak? I though thornley said he tried it and it worked for him.

Often I'm sitting on a surfboard and without thinking I can manuever the board around turning and everything
without using my arms, just my feet.

seems like it might work on the kayak too if you can hang your feet over the side with some little fins on.

You would be surprised at that algae bloom blocking sunlight and fish hanging below it. It also sounds like the heat will push the fish deep or to cover where as the wind will blow the insects toward the far shore. Sounds like a cool derby if everyone shows. I myself would toss the micro-lite all day with 4lb test. Dang now you got my casting arm twitching.

I've never thought about using fins on a yak.

I'm pretty sure that I would use drift socks and dual anchors to effectively fish structure for bass in a yak.

Big swimbaits ought to be fun.
