Drift shoots are used when it is windy enough to make the drift faster than you want but not so windy that you want to go in. OP will hit this magic point at sometime during the derby :-)

I almost always drift although I have been working on a halibut trolling method lately, thanks to SteveS. The biggest striper I ever caught (a little 5 pounder) was caught at OP trolling a smelt.
