Sorry bout that, Eric -- I should have known ...  :smt005

But that does look like the Redondo Pier in the background.  Might be a PS fake ..

Maybe I can move the picture over.  The post says it was caught on the Redondo Special (a party boat) yesterday.  The post is titled "Redondo Chinnok!

I will see if I can move the photo over.

Let's see if this works.  I just moved the picture over.  The post says it was caught on the AM Redondo Special which is the 1/2 day boat out of King Harbor.

Saw that on the redondo special facebook page. So asked if they were fishing for it and it was a by catch when fishing for rockfish. Pretty sure it was caught with barbed hooks from the sounds of it and they continued using barbed hooks afterwards. Not knowing any better. But still a nice catch for SoCal. It would be hard letting a salmon go if caught fishing for rockfish. Might as well pinch those barbs for GS6 guys.

Thanks for that follow-up Don.  :smt004  I recall in years past a report of salmon caught while fishing really deep for rock cod.  I recall it happening off Dana Point.  So this isn't the first time I've heard of it.  They must hang down deep here, occasionally.   :smt001

They are more common than you might think. Had a friend got one out of the surf in Long Beach about 5 years ago, saw one caught on the Malahini at the Coronado Islands 2 years ago and one of our crew caught one at Catalina 2 years ago. Another guy caught a big stiper the same day. Saw one at Dana landing last year.
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........
