I respect that captian crew, and angler were all up front on it!

IGFA rules are notoriously biased toward west coast stand up style fishing.  You can't let the rod touch a rail in a 3 hour fight but you can sit in a chair with the rod in a gimbal just taking in line while the captain of  sportfisher is backing the boat down so fast water is coming over the transom... its pretty ridiculous.
