Kayaker attacked by Swan drowns

The article does not mention if he was wearing a PFD, but the line "then he went under the water" makes me think not.

I thought that was what the paddle was for?  I really can't see that happening to an NCKAer.  Hell we get back in after a GWS attack, screw some swan.  I can see FishHunter with it on the grill without blinking an eye.

Ever been beaten down by a big wild tom turkey? swans are MUCH bigger. PFD or not A swan can knock your block off!!!!! Again PFD PFFD PFD PFD.... Why go with out one. He would have had a funny story to tell with one on....

Damn, what a bummer.  Guys got a kick ass job, kayaking and checking on critters, supporting his family, and gets taken out by a swan.  Broasted swan sounds pretty good!

All the gear, all the time.  I've carried that over to every sport I participate in; my motorcycle riding, kayaking, skiing.  There's a reason the safety equipment was created in the first place and it's lessons learned the hard way I'm sure.  While the safety equipment, like a PFD, may seem restrictive, time consuming and even costly, eventually there comes a time that you feel almost naked without it.
