Ever been beaten down by a big wild tom turkey? :smt011 swans are MUCH bigger. PFD or not A swan can knock your block off!!!!! Again PFD PFFD PFD PFD.... Why go with out one. He would have had a funny story to tell with one on....

Damn, what a bummer.  Guys got a kick ass job, kayaking and checking on critters, supporting his family, and gets taken out by a swan.  Broasted swan sounds pretty good!

All the gear, all the time.  I've carried that over to every sport I participate in; my motorcycle riding, kayaking, skiing.  There's a reason the safety equipment was created in the first place and it's lessons learned the hard way I'm sure.  While the safety equipment, like a PFD, may seem restrictive, time consuming and even costly, eventually there comes a time that you feel almost naked without it.
