I'm just getting ready to start kayak angling, and one of my more ambitious, if not immediate plans is to kayak from the Port of Stockton, out of the Golden Gate and down to Monterey.  I'm thinking that September/October would be the best weather to do this, and I think I could catch some nice rockfish between camping stops.  I'm thinking a PFD, VHF radio, GPS, and an emergency beacon are in order.  Does anyone else have any general tips, safety or otherwise?

I'd be down to go in a group if anyone else is interested!

John

That does sound like an incredible trip, but I really hope you have done your homework on what it will take to make it.  Sorry to start off with words of caution, but would help to know your level of kayaking experiance and the gear you plan on using on this journy.  Filing a float plan sounds like a good way to start.   :smt002
