Sorry for the late report but finally get a chance to get on the comp.  Left San Leandro Satuday morning around 0330 and arrived @ Van Damme around 0630.  Suited up and I was in the water around 0700. Visibility was decent, dove in 25' of h2o by the south island.  Swam around for about 45 minutes and finally pulled 3 nice fat abs, 2 abs were 9" and 1 was 8 1/2".  The abalone population outside Van Damme is amazing.  I would think that area would be wiped out because of so many people dive there but I guess not. Had a nice feast for Easter Sunday and the wife and the inlaw are happy.  Sorry for the late report.

Hi Fred:
VanDamm is a great spot. I was going to stop by but, I'm still unpacking. :smt044
The abs are  bigger on the Windward side  but deeper approx. 30+.
There is another spot just South of the Isl. about 100 Yards. It's a Parallel Rock
out cropping in front of some Homes. Be careful of the Swell and Wind doesn't slam you into
the Cliffs. It's like a swimming Pool once your on the inside of the outcroppings. You may
park on the small rock Beach in front of the Homes for Lunch.
                                                                                                    Regards
                                                                                                   Ernie
