Does anyone know of a place I can get a 50' floatline for cheap ? All the places I looked was 100' and $100 plus! I can't dive anywhere 100' so don't want to waste that $.

There are a couple guys on this board that make em, or you can just do it yourself.  Go to Home Depot etc, buy desired length of clear plastic tubing, a can of your preferred neon color spray paint and you are good to go.

hahaha.....I saw floatlines as the header and knew it was coming. I can't find a pic of the 3/8" ones. But here is a pic of the 1/4" version. I normally don't add the "tuna" clips but I can for a few $'s more. PM me and I can let you know what it costs and I can make any length you want.  for 50 ft its WAAYYY less then $100

I can vouch for Eric's floatlines. They're well made and I haven't had any leaks in mine (had it a little less than a year). The color stands out pretty well. They don't get too stiff in the cold, and the 3/8" thickness hasn't creased or bent on me. The only thing I changed was the snap on the swivel where it attached to the weight/gun-- I cut the snaps off because they'll open with too much force, and replaced one of them with a loop of 200lb. mono and then a tuna clip to attach to the gun.

You won't want to fight any large game fish with one (no core line and too short), but they work well for marking holes, leaving your gun on the bottom, and most other aspects of local diving.

Price is good too, especially if you're too lazy or don't feel like buying materials you might not even use for anything else but a floatline, like me.   :smt005

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I gave Pelyaker some ideas on how I did mine. I did steal ideas from EWB.

I think it's much more fun to DIY.

I had a bunch of clear tubing laying around. So I ran out to home depot n got a can of neon spray paint. Going to play around with it before I make a full length size. My hands are neon yellow by the way.....  :smt044

You are on your way......Not hard at all. Yeah since version 1.0 I have modified the snaps I use. The others are fine but heavy duty line/mono is the way to go

You can use cheap poly rope.  Seriously!  Hollow core stuff is easy to braid but the three strand stuff is a little stiffer and not quite as knotty.

A couple of years ago I made a float line out of tubing.  It worked pretty good....my diving got a lot better using one.  But at the last dive tourney at Caspar they were giving out float lines that were just made out of poly rope.  The material seems a little more flexible than the rope you buy at the hardware store.  Anyway, I've been using that now.  I like it better because it takes up less space when it's coiled up and its more flexible than tubing.

I'm sure there is some reason why tubing is better, but my tube float-line just sits in the garage now.  The rope ones are cheap at a dive shop.
