An 80,000 dollar boat and they didn't have a simple 500 dollar EPIRB.      That's a sad story that could have been prevented.

There seems to be some bad reporting in the article.  The boat starts taking on water and then he unties from an oil rig, his engines don't run and the boat sinks.  So how far from the rig could they have been?

And the fishing version of the 30' Wellcraft Scarab has outboard engines.  If they both failed then they might have been under water at that point, then why untie from the oil rig?

There's something missing from this story, sad as it is.
